Anthony V. Barbella passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 7, 2024. Beloved Husband of Georgina (nee DiBona); Loving Father of Marc (Susan) and Frank Barbella, and Toni (Geoffrey) Fala; Dear Pop Pop of Sabrina, Camille, Noelle, and Jessica; Brother of Rita Ann Conte and Victor Barbella; Also survived by Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.
Affectionately called Pop by his children, Pop-Pop by his grandchildren, Anthony (Tony) was a life-long South Philly guy. He loved playing sports as a kid, especially half-ball and gymnastics. He became an avid bowler and took great pride in posting a 299 game at Saint Monica Lanes, often telling the tale of the one pin left standing. As a young man, he was a doo-wop singer with The Four Epics and did background vocals on one of the Vesper’s hit records. He never lost his love of singing and couldn’t resist hitting the high-note for anyone who would listen.
Tony had a smile that was contagious, laughed easily at puns and silly jokes, and made friends everywhere he went. He adored his family and was devoted to the love of his life, his wife Georgina, whom he has known and loved since high school. They shared many special moments together over their nearly 59-year marriage, none more special than simply holding hands. They held hands until the end.
