Anthony J. Scola, Jr., passed away on April 13, 2026, at the age of 94.
He was the devoted husband of Theresa (née Silvestri) for 69 years, and the beloved father of Anthony, Ann Marie, Stephen, Joseph (Kim), and Michael (Angela). Loving brother of Bob (Ann) Scola and the late John (Rita) Scola and Philomena. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Anthony proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, working in demolition with the Army Corps of Engineers. His sense of duty and discipline carried through every part of his life. A flag-folding ceremony will be held at the time of his interment in honor of his service.
A lifelong South Philadelphian, Anthony built a reputation as a hardworking and dependable man. He worked as a truck driver with Teamsters Local 830 for Scola Beer Distributor at 8th and Tasker Streets, providing for his family with pride and dedication.
Beyond his work, Anthony leaves behind a lasting legacy in the community. He was one of the original organizers of the South 13th Street “Miracle of 13th Street” Christmas lights, helping to create a tradition that continues to bring joy, unity, and holiday spirit to thousands each year. His contributions helped shape a neighborhood celebration that will live on for generations.
His faith and devotion were equally defining. In his retirement years, he gave back to Annunciation BVM Church, serving faithfully as a sexton and custodian. It was the same church where he was baptized, married, and celebrated in life, a full-circle testament to his lifelong commitment to his faith and community.
Anthony enjoyed bowling, playing bocce, and cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, but nothing meant more to him than his family. He will be remembered as a man of strength, humility, faith, and quiet generosity—someone who led by example and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Annunciation BVM Church.A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 AM.Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in Anthony’s memory to Annunciation BVM Church, 10th and Dickinson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
