Cyrus “Chic” Ciccocelli passed away on November 10, 2024.
He served in the Army Air Force 1945-1946. World War II ended.
He was the youngest of the Ciccocelli family who resided at 1516 S. Juniper St., South Philadelphia.
He was the first and only one who graduated from South Philadelphia High School (class of 1945). He was on the fencing team that won the championship that year. Incidentally that was the year South Philadelphia High won all sports championships.
The thing that I remember most is that he was “witty”, calm, and a great Uncle to me when it counted as I was growing up. He was my confirmation sponsor in 1956 at the Epiphany of Our Lord Church in South Philadelphia.
He was witty; for example at a picnic at his brother's home in Malvern, PA (my Uncle Ralph) He stated when the question was asked...”were you in the Air force”? He replied “yes”. The person that asked was a retired major from the Air Force. She then asked “What did you do”? He replied “I flew the Birds”(the birds). When the group caught on laughter broke out.
I am definitely going to miss him, especially taking the tours once a week of South
Philadelphia for the past 10 years and especially when we had lunch on Delaware Ave. shopping center across from U.S.S. United States as it lay in the Delaeware river abandoned.
So long Uncle Chic
I'm sorry we could not have spent more time,
Love your nephew
Anthony M. Ciccocelli
