Gary Christinzio, affectionately known as "GILLS," passed away on December 24, 2024, at the age of 60. He was the devoted son of the late John and Helen (nee Acello) Christinzio and the beloved brother of John (Ann) Christinzio Jr. Gary was the loving uncle of John Christinzio III and is survived by three aunts and many loving cousins.
Throughout his childhood, Gary immersed himself in basketball, spending countless hours at Johnson Field where his passion for the sport flourished. He had a deep connection to water, whether it was swimming pools, the ocean, or even under the fire hydrant on hot summer nights in South Philadelphia, earning him the affectionate nickname "GILLS."
Before his declining health, Gary dedicated over 10 years to working with the Passyunk Ave. Civic Association. He played a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness of the neighborhood and will be fondly remembered for his interactions with neighbors and local store owners. Gary's infectious smile and positive demeanor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard Church on 18th and Pollock St. The funeral mass will commence at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
