James F. Campenella

James (Jim) F. Campenella, a devoted father, loving "No-No," and visionary real estate developer who helped shape the Philadelphia skyline for nearly five decades, passed away on July 20, 2026. He leaves behind an inspiring legacy of iconic properties and community enhancement. Over his 50-year tenure, Jim collaborated with a prestigious roster of clients, contractors, and architects to bring timeless structures to the city. One of his crowning achievements was the development of the historic Western Union Building at 1111 Locust Street, which he also called home. His professional legacy lives on dynamically through his son, James. When the younger James founded Columbus Construction, Jim took immense pride in stepping into the role of a dedicated mentor, guiding his son every day to pass down his decades of expertise and passion for the industry. Later in life, Jim committed himself to a holistic way of living, a meaningful change that extended his life significantly. Along the way, he shared this lifestyle with countless family members and friends, a testament to his generous and loving spirit. Jim's proudest and most cherished role was that of grandfather. He adored his granddaughters, Summer and Siena, and built a special bond with them through countless moments of laughter, love, and ice cream. Whether attending their activities,celebrating their accomplishments, or simply spoiling them, he made both girls feel deeply valued and loved. The legacy of his kindness will live on in their hearts for generations. Jim was also deeply committed to community leadership and philanthropy. He served with distinction on the Board of Directors at Roman Catholic High School and was an active member of the Polar Plunge Committee supporting the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. His passion for the cause was evident in his personal dedication, having bravely taken the plunge numerous times himself to support Special Olympics athletes. Jim is survived by his devoted son, James, James’s wife, Ashley; his precious grandchildren, Summer and Siena; his niece, Danielle Shalet; his nephew, Charles Shalet; his great-nephew, Alex; and his loving former wife, Kim Campenella. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Epic Church or Roman Catholic High School. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday August 3, 2026 with a Celebration of Life Service starting at 11:00 a.m. @ Epic Church 6035 Ridge Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19128.  Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken will be private.
