James J Powers

James Powers (Jimi) Peacefully passed away on July 11, 2026. Born to the late Robert T. and Joan Powers, Jimi was a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia. He was a longtime employee of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Beloved husband of Gracie. Loving father of Faith (John) Fanelli. Proud Pop Pop and best buddy to Gianni Fanelli.

There are simply no words that can describe the kind of man Jimi was. He was truly an angel on earth whose kindness, generosity, and unconditional love touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to call him family or friend.

He is survived by his brothers, the late Robert Jr. (Tracy), Thomas (Marlene), Joseph (Maria), William (Annette), Steven, and his sister, Tara (Gary) Amato. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Gina (Robert) Novelli, Donna McCormick, and was predeceased by his sister-in-law Lisa Costello and brother-in-law Michael Cozzi. He is further survived by countless nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Thursday 9 – 10AM St Rita of Cascia Church 1166 S Broad St Phila., Pa 19146. Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following the visitation 10AM. Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
