James Charles Vogt, 87, of Philadelphia, passed away on August 10, 2024. He was born to Jacob and Mary Agnes Vogt on January 11th,1937 in Philadelphia as the youngest of three boys and raised by his grandmother Annie Coor until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1954.

During his service, Jim was stationed in Camp Lejeune, Panama, and Lakehurst. While serving as a radio operator he earned a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Jim fondly remembered his time in the service and the camaraderie he felt with his fellow veterans.

While serving in the USMC, Jim diligently corresponded with girlfriend and later wife, planning life after enlistment. In 1960, the pair eventually married and went on to have three children, James, Gary, and Randy. He worked diligently as a handyman and oil burner repairman until starting at General Electric (GE). Jim worked at General Electric, where he earned awards for his dedication and contributions over 29 years until he retired.

In 1992, James started his retirement where he dedicated his time to family and passions. He spent hours studying the bible, caring for his classic car, caring for his pets and traveling. Over the years, this transitioned to spending quality time with his six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Christina, Gary, Kevin, Alexis, and Madeline. Recently, he enjoyed spending as much time as he could get with his six great grandchildren, Julia, Henry, Simon, Aiden, Jacob, and Timothy.

Jim was preceded in death by Lorraine. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who will miss the stories and laughs their “Dad”, “Pops”, “Opa”,” Pop Pop”, “Grand Pop” and “Big Pop Pop”  brought to every family event. A viewing will be held at Baldi Funeral Home (Ample Off-Street Parking Available) 1331 S Broad St Philadelphia, PA 19147 on Thursday, August 15th, 2024 from 10AM until 12PM with a service immediately following. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Philadelphia SPCA, an organization which James felt passionately about.
