Joseph F. Descano, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the South Philadelphia community, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, in the city of his birth. Born on October 23, 1932, to Felix and Anna. Joseph grew up in South Philadelphia and remained a dedicated member of the community throughout his life.

In his early years, Joseph attended Southern High School in Philadelphia and later served in the Armed Forces stationed in Germany during the Korean War. His commitment and service made him a respected and valued member of the military. After returning from his service, Joseph went into banking, working for 39 years at Fidelity Bank, now Wells Fargo, where he held the position of Vice President of Operations. He also served as an usher and altar server during funeral masses at Annunciation BVM.

Joseph's greatest joy in life was his family. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Henrietta "Rickie" (nee Pennachietti) and the loving father of Linda Descano (Robert Scott Boucher), Christina Descano (Ralph Garcia), James Descano (Stephanie Lalumera), and Jeffrey (Cathie) Descano. He was also a doting grandfather to Michael and Francesca Descano and was survived by a large extended family and many friends.

Joseph's life will be celebrated on Saturday at Annunciation BVM Church, at 10th and Dickinson St., where relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 9 to 10 AM, with the Mass following at 10 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joseph's memory to the Pancreatic Action Network at PanCAN.org, a cause that was close to his heart.

Joseph F. Descano will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his selfless service to his country, and his years of service to others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
