Joseph Sigismondi, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026.
He leaves behind the memory of his devoted wife, the late Elvira (née DeMarco) Sigismondi, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2021. He leaves behind his beloved children, Rita (Joseph) Giannone and Joseph N. (Ranee) Sigismondi, and his loving grandchildren, affectionately known as “Dadoo” to Joseph Jr., Lauren, Gia, and Joseph N. Jr.
He is also survived by his brother Antonio (Nadia) Sigismondi, brother-in-law Nick (Ruth) DeMarco, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, along with his faithful furry companion, Nino.
Joe immigrated to America in 1959 with his beloved wife, Elvira, from the province of Chieti in Abruzzo, Italy. A skilled craftsman, he used his knowledge of cement and concrete while working with McCloskey & Company, helping construct Interstate 95 in Philadelphia from Bridge Street to the Ben Franklin Bridge. He later established his own general contracting company in South Philadelphia, where he built a successful career through hard work, determination, and pride in his craft.
Joe remained active throughout his life, both in his work and in his personal pursuits. He loved planting and gardening, spending summers boating at the Jersey Shore and enjoying the family home in Ventnor, New Jersey. In the fall, he enjoyed making wine, a tradition he took great pride in. During the winter months, he especially enjoyed spending time in the Pennsylvania mountains hunting, particularly in Bradford County, where he established the Roman Sportsmen’s Lodge in the community of Rome, Pennsylvania.
Joe’s greatest joy, however, came from his family. He cherished the time spent with his late wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren. He loved bringing people together and enjoyed seeing everyone around him having a good time. Above all, Joe loved seeing his family happy, together, and enjoying life.
His strong work ethic, generous spirit, love of family, and zest for life will remain a lasting part of his legacy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday August 29th from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Baldi Funeral Home, 1331 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Rita of Cascia Church, 1166 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA.
