Josephine (Jo & Josie) (nee Viggiano) Rubbo of Philadelphia passed away in Pinehurst, NC, on March 13, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Rubbo was born in South Philadelphia to the late Berardino Viggiano, a carpenter, and Cecilia (Inverso) Viggiano, a seamstress and homemaker. Josie, a devoted Catholic, was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Josie had a plethora of talents and interests. As a teen, she played softball for the JVs, a team whose members shared the initials JV. She was a fun den mother for her young son's cub scout troop. She was a pastel and charcoal artist who utilized her talents to create cards, books, and theme parties for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An expert baker, she baked creations that were both beautiful and delicious for her family's major life events. A talented seamstress, she sewed matching clothing for her daughters' and granddaughters' dolls. She designed phenomenal Halloween costumes. She was on a bowling team with her grandsons. She always loved dancing, especially jitterbugging with Michael, her beloved, late husband. And in later life, she began dancing in regional shows with the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center (SPOAC). Always impeccably dressed, Josie was a true fashionista, following her own sense of style and design.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Michael J. Rubbo and by her siblings and their spouses Kathryn D’Antonio (Domenic), Filomena Menta (Angelo), Joseph Viggiano (Doris), Cecelia Milano (Onofrio). Her surviving family includes her three devoted children: Anthony Rubbo and his wife Maria of Philadelphia, PA; Cecilia R Wyand and her husband John of Yardley, PA; Michele Rubbo Lupkas and her husband Raymond of Pinehurst, NC. She has nine loving grandchildren Anthony (Kathy), Mark, John (Riely), John Paul (Kelly), Joan Marie, Michele (Kenny), Angela (Ryan), twins Marissa and Cassandra, and three cherished great-grandchildren: Lucia Josephine, Luke, and Laine Caroline and many nieces and nephews.

Josie made such an ever-lasting impact on our entire family. We have beautiful memories of holidays and time spent with her. Her legacy will continue with her children and grandchildren. They learned from her a love of art, cooking, and baking. Josie was a fantastic role model. She showed unconditional love, and never believing anything was impossible, encouraged us all to believe in ourselves.
