It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Louis R. DeCarlo, at the age of 87 on May 10, 2025. Lou, as he was affectionately known, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was deeply loved by all who knew him.

Louis is survived by his loving wife Nina (DeCaro), with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, and by his four children: Louis (Michele), Anthony (Michelle), Diane (Matthew), and Michael (BriAnne). He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and nothing brought him more joy than talking about his family with anyone who would listen. His face would light up with pride whenever he spoke of them.

Lou touched the lives of many and welcomed everyone with open arms. He treated everyone as family and was always there when someone needed him. A man of deep Catholic faith and unwavering devotion to his loved ones, Lou was loyal, strong, dedicated, witty, funny, and resilient—a true fighter who never gave up. He instilled his values and principles in his children and grandchildren, leading by quiet, steadfast example. He was the rock that grounded our family.

Lou was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, experiencing joy in the success of the city’s teams. His true devotion, however, was baseball. He was an outstanding baseball and softball pitcher, rising to legendary status as a South Philly softball pitcher. His love for the game stayed with him throughout his life, whether he was on the field coaching or cheering from the sidelines.

Lou found fulfillment in life’s simple pleasures. He loved sitting in the sun, reading, playing, watching, and coaching baseball. He especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments. These moments brought him immense pride and happiness.

Above all, Lou cherished time spent surrounded by his family. His legacy lives on through the love, strength, and unity he instilled in us. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing he is now resting peacefully with the Lord.

We will miss him dearly.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
