Maria Bodner

BODNER, MARIA TERESA (nee Swan) passed on Jan. 10, 2015 at the age of 84. Loving daughter of the late Ellen (nee McGlone) and Charles Swan; beloved wife of the late Edward Bodner; cherished mother of Michael (Olivia), Patrick, Ellen Zanolle (Louis), Mary Brown (Lawrence) and Charles (Tammy); devoted grandmother of Charles (Chuck), Christopher, Alicia, Andrew, Kate, Alexander, Patricia and Edward. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen, sister Irene Clark and brother Charles. Maria graduated from Saint Ambrose School in 1944. She attended Cecilian Academy, where she was heavily involved in the drama department and had many leading acting and singing roles. She graduated in 1948. She graduated from Peirce School of Business in 1951. She also attended The Philadelphia Musical Academy for two years. She was an opera singer, and sang with the Cosmopolitan Opera Company for many years. She also sang on WIBG radio station frequently, as well as various radio shows in Philadelphia. After she had children, she was the lead singer for Saint Ambrose Church for nearly 30 years and sang at all the weddings and funerals. “Schubert’s Ave Maria” was everyone’s favorite. She retired from PECo Energy Co. in Dec. 1994.
