Marie Frattali, age 90, a life-long South Philly
gal, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021
surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Philadelphia in 1931, Marie was the
daughter of Anthony and Lena (nee Blundi) Sainato;
the second of three girls and a boy.
She began working as a seamstress at a young age
at Mitchell Daroff, and continued helping people
with her sewing skills, whether it be hemming
everyone's pants, or making an elaborate wedding
cake out of towels for bridal showers or beautiful
bassinets for baby showers.
Marie met the love of her life, Mario Frattali,
while working at Daroff, and they were married on
June 30th, 1957 and spent 24 years together
raising their son Anthony on 9th Street in South
Philadelphia until Mario's untimely death at the
age of 49 in 1981. Mario came in second place in
the "Handsomest Man in South Philly" contest and
they were a glamorous couple and looked like movie
stars.
Marie's home was her pride and joy, filled with
Italian marble and beautiful French provincial
furniture and bisque. The house was always
spotless, and as her son Anthony was fond of
saying, "You won't find a fingerprint on the
marble." Her feather duster was an extension of
her arm.
And her cooking, well, her gravy was the stuff of
legend, with the meatballs and sausage that went
in it, not to mention her roasted peppers and
icebox cake.
Marie's generosity extended not only to her family
and friends, but to anyone she felt needed a
helping hand. Everyone was welcome in her home
and was invited to sit at her table or in her
parlor. She faithfully donated to any and all
organizations that touched her heart, even if it
was only a couple of bucks.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, husband
Mario, sister Joan and brother-in-law Chuck
Perkins, brother Anthony Sainato, sister Dolores
and brother-in-law John Farina, and nephew, John
Farina.
Left to cherish with loving memories are her son
Anthony and daughter-in-law Robin, her
sister-in-law Sandra Sainato, her nieces and
nephews and their spouses and children, her
cherished best friend of 65 years, Barbara Russo,
and her beloved Godson, Angelo Borgesi.
Family, friends and others whose lives Marie
touched are invited to the Baldi Funeral Home,
1331 South Broad Street, Philadelphia
Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021,
viewing from 10 am to 12 pm, with service to
