Mary DiSalvatore (née Ivan) passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 93. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph DiSalvatore and the beloved mother of Joseph (Pamela), Robert “Bob” (Amelia), and the late Michael DiSalvatore.
Mary was the loving sister of the late Betty Mazda and Jimmy Ivan. She was a cherished grandmother to Jennifer Fencl, Nicole DiSalvatore, Michael DiSalvatore, Robert DiSalvatore, Joseph DiSalvatore, and Catherine DiSalvatore; and a proud great-grandmother to Victoria, Emma, Anna, and Bryan Fencl, as well as Dominic DiSalvatore, Luca, Nico and Oliver. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A trailblazer and entrepreneur, Mary was the proud owner of M&M Beauty Salon in the Wynfield section of Philadelphia, which she opened in 1956 and operated until 1982. She continued to share her talents and passion for hairstyling well into her later years. Never afraid to take chances, Mary embraced life’s challenges and believed that failure was a necessary step toward growth—an outlook she instilled in her children.
Mary found great joy in supporting her sons on the football field, always present on the sidelines, cheering them on with pride. Sundays were sacred—filled with cooking for her family and watching her beloved Philadelphia Eagles. She was also an active member of her local senior center and loved taking bus trips to Atlantic City, where she enjoyed playing blackjack.
In her later years, Mary’s greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her family and witnessing her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow into young adults. Her warmth, strength, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Viewing on Thursday, March 27th from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at St. Richard's Church (18th and Pollock Sts) with a mass to follow at 10:30AM. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
