Michael Fanelli

Michael A. Fanelli, 65, passed away on August 19, 2024, after a prolonged battle with dementia.

Michael A. Fanelli was born on August 31, 1958, to Salvatore A. Fanelli and Annamarie (DellaVecchia) Fanelli. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Michael attended South Philadelphia High School and Saint John Neumann before becoming a lifelong iron worker. In 1978, he met the love of his life, Eileen McKnight. They got married, moved to Port Richmond, and soon welcomed three daughters into the world:  Kristina, Eileen and Michelle. Mike’s daughters were his everything.

Known by the nickname “Iron Mike,” Mike loved dancing, rock and roll, boxing, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Above all, he loved his family and was a fierce protector of all of his siblings, children and grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his ex-wife Eileen McKnight, his three daughters Kristina (Greg), Eileen (Joseph), and Michelle, and his grandchildren Liam, Nadia, Joseph, Mia, Gianna, Amelia, Bianca, and Nixon.  He is also survived by his brothers Saverio, Anthony (Donna), and Joseph (Kyle), and his sisters Angela, Maria and AnnaMarie.  Mike was predeceased by his brother Vincent and his sisters Teresa and Judith, as well as his parents.

Services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024.

VIEWING: 8:00 am to 9:30 am at Baldi Funeral Home, 1331 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147.

MASS: 10:00 am St. Rita of Cascia Church, 1166 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA.

CEMETERY: SS. Peter & Paul, 1600 Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA, and luncheon to follow.
