NOY CHEN SOO HOO OBITUARY
On November 12, 2018, Noy Chen Soo Hoo (née Chung), of Philadelphia, beloved wife of the late Harry Young Soo Hoo (Sit Bo Young), and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 90.
Noy Chen was born in the Year of the Dragon in Yang Bian Cun, Xin Hui, Guangdong Province, China. She was second of eight children and the eldest daughter of the late Mee Dock Chung and Wan Hoi (Chiu). Brought together by a local village matchmaker, Noy Chen married Harry Young in 1948 and eventually immigrated to the United States in 1955.
Noy Chen believed in the “American Dream” for her family making sure that they worked hard and pursued educational opportunities. She successfully sponsored her siblings in achieving their dreams of immigrating to the U.S. Noy Chen retired as a seamstress in 1990 and enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren including trips to Boston, San Francisco, Italy, Canada, Bermuda, and Hawaii. She returned to visit China and reunited with several sisters in 1995. She continued to cook fabulous Chinese meals for her family, gardened, and was a Tai-Chi enthusiast, but most of all, she was the glue for the family.
Noy Chen, is survived by her son, Winson and his wife, Linda Lee, two daughters, Elaine and her husband, Dan Smith, and Eva and her husband, Frank Bergamaschi. She was a doting grandmother to Rachel Smith, Teya Bergamaschi, and Ian Soo Hoo. She is also survived by her sister, Fei Chang Zhong, and brother Alex Chung and his wife, Felicia, many nieces and nephews (children of her brothers, Cheng B. Zhong and Qi F Zhong, who pre-deceased her), and relatives from the Sit (Xue) family.
The Soo Hoo Family will receive family and friends for a Viewing and Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 9:30AM to 11AM at Baldi Funeral Home, 1331 South Broad Street, Philadelphia.
Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 101 Byberry Rd Huntingdon Valley, Pa 19006
A repast, to which all are welcome to partake, will follow at SangKee, 3549 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia from 2PM to 4PM.
