Quang Huynh Profile Photo

Quang Huynh, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 25, 2025 at the age of 84.

Following his parents’ emigration from Shantou, China for economic opportunities, Quang was born on September 19, 1940 in Hộ Phòng (Bạc Liêu Province) in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam.  He had an underprivileged upbringing, and was primarily raised by his single mom after his father passed away when he was twelve years old.  As a young adult, Quang worked various jobs – at his uncle’s ice factory, at a convenience store, as a sugar producer, and on a shipping boat doing business in Cambodia.

With an entrepreneurial spirit, Quang moved to Saigon to open a small but successful fabric factory, which was unfortunately destroyed during the Vietnam War. It was in Saigon that Quang met and married his wife, Cam Quach in 1975.  However, like many other Chinese families living in Vietnam after the war, Quang [along with his wife and two young sons] sought asylum in the United States as a refugee in search of a better future for their family.  On the way to a refugee camp in Indonesia, the family survived pirate attacks and hazardous weather conditions; during one stormy day, Quang was instrumental in helping his boat from capsizing by corralling the group to work together when some sought to abandon the ship.

After over a year in the refugee camp, Quang and his family were finally accepted into the United States and traveled halfway around the world to Philadelphia, PA in 1980. Following a lengthy period adjusting to life in a new country while adding two additional children to the family, Quang opened a fruit salad stand with his wife in the 1990s before retiring in 2006.  However, not long after retiring, his oldest son, Thang, passed away after a multi-year battle with Leukemia in 2008.  In the years following, Quang always paid remembrance to his oldest son during family gatherings.  In 2024, after more than 40 years in the United States, Quang was able to travel back to Vietnam and his birthplace with his family to visit relatives.

Quang cared very deeply about his family and closest friends. Growing up, he always made sure he was able to support his mother, and older sister.  Those who knew Quang will remember his honesty, his steadfast commitment to those he cared for, and the quiet strength that defined his character. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the values he instilled in them.  He will be deeply missed by his loved ones, but his spirit and lessons will continue to guide them.

Quang is survived by his wife, Cam Quach, his children Loi, Gamy, and Johnny (Kelly) along with grandchildren Cameron, Peter, and Henry.
