Rita Medica Profile Photo
The youngest child of John and Concetta Medica, passed away on her 84th birthday, May 19, 2021. Her siblings and their spouses preceded her in death:
Salvatore (Avella); Josephine (Charles); Joseph (Rosemarie); George (Anna); Jennie (Michael); Frances (Edward); Virginia (Vincent); Grace; Philip. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Rita’s friendships were true and enduring.

Rita was a life-long and proud resident of South Philadelphia. Her accomplishments in life were numerous and most of them were related to her deep love of family. Rita graduated with honors from South Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1955 …….and immediately began a forty year career with (then) Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, retiring from Bell Atlantic as the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Her success at work allowed her to provide and care for her brother Philip and sister Grace after the death of their parents. She was a founding member of the Service Association for the Retarded at Hall Mercer Community Mental Health Center, where she provided leadership as well as hands-on programming for disabled adults like Philip who had few services available to them at that time.

Spending time with her large Italian family, including siblings, nieces, nephews and her dear friends was a major part of Rita’s life. She loved to play card games and Scrabble…she was proficient in Italian language Scrabble as well as English. She hosted parties that were legendary! She loved to travel with her friends, and she saw much of the world. Italy was by far her favorite destination, and she always brought home wonderful stories to share. She was thrilled to visit Caccomo, Sicily, the home town of her parents.

Rita loved her parish church, St. Nicholas of Tolentine, and was always generous in her support. Many other charities were recipients of her generosity, too. Rita will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Wednesday, May 26, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 am, St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, 910 Watkins Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148. Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
