Robert Tupper Barrett, Jr. was born in Paris, France in 1929. Known as Tupper to all who knew him, he was a boating enthusiast, a guitar player, and chess player. With chuckles, his friends might describe him as a frustrated, amateur political activist.Tupper graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Physics, and as a US Marine, served as a translator in Morroco.Tupper built a long career at IBM, and after retiring, operated PilotHouse, a resource for nautical books, charts, and maps.Mr. Barrett is survived by his daughter, Anne Barrett Davis, of Melbourne, Florida, and two nieces, Elizabeth Perry Gourlay and Jane Perry Burden, both of Charleston, South Carolina. A memorial service is planned for a later date at his family burial site in Stafford, Virginia.
