Pietro Jacovini was a respected civic leader, inventor, and editor of L’Opinione—the only daily Italian-language newspaper in Philadelphia during its time. He was a beloved figure in the Italian American community, known for leading the city’s annual New Year’s Parade Down Broad Street on his iconic black stallion. After his passing in 1936, his sons—William, Joseph, Pietro Jr.—joined with their uncle Alfonso Baldi and Cousin Victor Sr. to continue and expand the family’s funeral service tradition.
About Us
A Legacy of Service in South Philadelphia

In 1943, the business was officially relocated from its original locations at 9th and Hall Streets and 8th and Kimball Streets to a prominent property at 1327–29 South Broad Street, formerly a music conservatory. With this move, the name Pennsylvania Burial Company, Inc. was formally established, and Baldi Funeral Home was created as its sister office. Since then, the two have operated together as one unified and trusted funeral service provider in South Philadelphia.
As the business grew, additional brownstone properties were acquired on either side of and across from the funeral home. These were transformed into private parking areas, offering space for over 75 vehicles, ensuring convenience and accessibility for families during visits and services.
Our Chapel Facilities

Today, our funeral home features four chapels—three on the main level and one on the second floor, which is fully accessible via elevator. These chapels accommodate both intimate and large gatherings with care and comfort.
In 1988, the second-floor chapel was redesigned to respectfully serve Philadelphia’s growing Asian community, offering a serene space for Buddhist funeral ceremonies. To meet the needs of our multicultural neighborhood, we also provide translation services in Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Spanish.
Over a Century of Family Tradition
Now in its fourth generation, the Jacovini and Baldi families are honored to carry on a legacy that spans more than 100 years. What began as a small, community-based service has grown into a trusted institution rooted in tradition, compassion, and excellence.
